About Howard Mittman

A New York-based media executive with more than two decades of experience spanning business development, marketing, advertising, and sales, Howard Mittman is the president of 888 U.S., the U.S. division of the publicly traded online sports betting and gaming company 888 Holdings. He also serves as senior advisor to EverBlock Systems, LLC, and is a strategic advisor to KERV Interactive and TPG Integrated Media. 

Howard Mittman began his career in 1995 as a research associate at Sanford Bernstein after obtaining a bachelor of arts in journalism from The Ohio State University. He spent three years at the New York firm before joining New York magazine as a dot-com account director. He later spent five years as advertising director at Time Inc., where he oversaw ad sales for Mutual Funds Magazine and Popular Science. 

Mittman joined the global mass media company Condé Nast in 2006 as associate publisher of WIRED. He was later promoted to vice president and publisher of the emerging technologies publication and managed a team of 85 employees. Mittman spent a combined 11 years at Condé Nast and ultimately served as chief business officer of ALPHA, which included publications like Golf Digest and GQ and a staff of more than 200.

Wired

WIRED – Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer of WIRED where he stewarded the brand to new heights, relaunched wired.com, launched the first ever truly interactive magazine iPad app and created the WIRED BUSINESS conference and the WIRED Cafe @ Comicon.

 

GQ

GQ – Chief Revenue Officer responsible for rearchitecting GQ.com and driving the brand into its digital future. Launched the GQ Grammy Party and the Gent – an invitation only private club presented by GQ.

 

Condé Nast

Condé Nast – Chief Business Officer responsible for oversight and management of one third of Condé Nast’s acclaimed portfolio of media brands.

 

Bleacher Report

Bleacher Report – Chief Executive Officer charged with reinventing Bleacher Report and House of Highlights. Reinvigorated and reenergized the revenue and marketing organizations, launched and maintained a thriving experience division and a successful e-commerce division, in addition to rebranding the entirety of the portfolio.

“Mr. Mittman retooled the sales team, zeroed in on a category of influential readers he labeled “informed optimists,” and began a conference series and other events. He also leveraged a breakout iPad launch last June to help bring in high-end fashion brands and other advertisers that had never appeared in the magazine.

Wired finished 2010 with ad pages spiking 24%—the biggest improvement of any Condé Nast title—and ad revenue up 36%, to $85 million, according to Publishers Information Bureau. It was the magazine’s most profitable year ever.

This year, ad pages through April are up 33%.

Bleacher Report

Howard Mittman spent three years at Bleacher Report and last served as CEO of the sports and lifestyle media organization. He managed profit and loss for the 600-employee enterprise and was largely responsible for its three highest years of revenue growth, which he achieved through strategic partnerships, innovative programming, and extensive digital advertising. He also created a sports betting platform with live shows from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and launched a successful events division. In 2020, Mittman founded Record Scratch, a consultancy in New York focused on digital transformations, strategy, marketing, and business development. He was named president of 888 U.S. in spring 2022.  

 Mittman has received multiple professional accolades. He was named Publisher of the Year by Condé Nast, included on Crain’s New York Business 40 Under 40 list, and more recently, earned induction into the Media Industry News Hall of Fame. During his tenure at Bleacher Report, the company was named among Fast Company‘s 50 Most Innovative Companies.  

Giving

As part of our commitment to support minority business efforts and give back to historically disadvantaged communities, 888 Holdings made a donation to Hampton College.

Hampton is a prestigious and Historically Black College and University located in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. With famed alumni such as Booker T. Washington and a museum which houses one of the countries foremost collections of Black art and the original pen which President Lincoln used to sign the Emancipation Proclamation, Hampton is a symbol of opportunity and educational advancement which 888 is proud to support.

Seen below is 888’s U.S. President, Howard Mittman, with the President of Hampton, Darrell K. Williams, a retired three star general from the U.S. Army. They are joined by Ida Outlaw McPherson, owner of Virtual Entertainment Partners, which works closely with 888 in its efforts across Virginia. This donation represents a first step in 888’s increasing commitment to advancing and promoting diversity within Virginia and across the United States.

888 also made a $25k donation to Virgina Union, another historic HBCU. Additionally, we made $50k donations to each of the following community groups as a part of our efforts to push diversity and opportunity for marginalized communities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia:
